Research & Development Services

Torion Technologies is a chemical measurement instrumentation company founded in 2001 to develop, manufacture, and market the world's smallest and most advanced chemical detection systems for making traditional laboratory measurement in the field. Torion's staff, combined with several faculty and students at Brigham Young University, have made several breakthrough advancements that have enabled the creation of field portable chemical detectors with unprecedented performance and reliability. We regularly work with a growing number of government and commercial customers to design and develop instrumentation and devices that meet their requirements.

+ Research & Development

Torion scientists have decades of expertise in multiple areas from original science to product commercialization. In particular, our team is focused on separation and detection sciences in both the chemical and biological domains. Torion’s analytical chemistry R&D capabilities are particularly centered in the areas of mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, sampling and sample preparation, microseparations, and ion mobility analysis.

+ Mechanical & Chemical Engineering

Torion has developed a unique mechanical engineering capability for designing analytical instrumentation. In concert with the R&D staff, our mechanical engineers have developed commercial instruments such as supercritical fluid chromatographs and extractors, microseparation devices, ion trap and time-of-flight mass spectrometers, ion mobility spectrometers, and x-ray proportional counters. Torion provides engineering services in the areas of flow dynamics and modeling, as well as analytical measurement related microcatalysis.

+ Electrical & Electronics Engineering

In today’s world of microelectronics, inventiveness and ingenuity are paramount. Torion’s staff includes several of the instrumentation industry’s foremost experts in the fields of electronic board design, lay-out, and production. Our team is particularly skilled in the miniaturization of electronic devices for instrument control, high speed data acquisition, and signal processing.

+ Software & Firmware Engineering

Modern measurement devices not only require sophisticated and streamlined operational code and user-friendly software, but also advanced algorithms for data processing and reporting. Torion’s team of firmware-software engineers and analytical statisticians blend to provide our customers unique programming and coding services that can be delivered in a timely manner.

+ Biological Sciences

A unique capability available through Torion is a biosafety level-3 facility housed at Brigham Young University that is registered with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This microbial archive facility offers the capability of active detection research and development on over 1200 isolates representing almost all of the bacterial CDC select agents. This capability enables Torion to develop advanced, state-of-the-art biological detection capabilities and instrumentation.
